The Independent Podcast Awards Shortlist Has Been Revealed
- 136 podcasts shortlisted across 21 categories
- The event will be held at Kings Place on 30th October
The Independent Podcast Awards have revealed the shortlist for the inaugural event, which will now be held at Kings Place in London at the end of October. With 136 different podcasts recognised across 21 categories, the awards highlight the range of talent in the UK and Ireland today.
After the amazing amount of entries received, the team decided to split out some of the categories to create three new categories: History, Sexuality & Relationships and Self-Improvement. This created more opportunities for the excellent podcasts entered to be shortlisted in the awards, and for more of those creators to be recognised.
To allow more people to attend the event the ceremony will now be hosted at Kings Place in Kings Cross, London. Already home to The London Podcast Festival, the venue will be opening its doors to the nominees on the revised date of Monday 30th October 2023.
The awards were launched in conjunction with the Verbal Diorama podcast, itself an indie, and seek to celebrate the truly independent talent of UK based podcasters who don’t have the financial backing of brands to support them.
Emma Turner, Head of Events at whynow, co-founders of the Independent Podcast Awards said: “We were blown away by the number of entries we received in this, our first year of the awards. The move to Kings Place means that more people will be able to join us for the big night of celebration on 30th October, and we’re working closely with the team there to create a night to remember.”
Em McGowan, co-founder of The Independent Podcast Awards and host of Verbal Diorama said: “I’m so excited that we can now share the shortlist with the world. The number of podcasts recognised highlights just how many incredible indie podcasts entered this year, and what a tough job our amazing team of judges had in whittling them down to the ones you can see on the list.”
Zoe Jeyes, Deputy Managing Director of Kings Place said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Independent Podcast Awards on this event. Kings Place works hard to showcase a range of creative talent at the venue, and these awards are a great way to further this goal.”
Support for the awards has come from Adelicious, AudioUK, Captivate, Overtune, Pod Bible, Podcasting Seriously and Pirate, without which the event couldn’t take place. All are champions of indie talent in the podcasting and audio world.
The awards will be held on Monday 30th October, and this year’s host will be announced next week.
Tickets for the event can be booked directly via the Kings Place box office here.
