The Independent Podcast Awards team is delighted to announce that comedian Esther Manito will host its inaugural event on Monday 30th October at Kings Place.

Esther is an Arab Essex girl who will challenge every single preconception of what that means. Manito’s TV appearances include Live At The Apollo, The Stand Up Sketch Show, and Hypothetical, she’s also been a guest on the Off Menu, Parenting Hell and Drunk Women Solving Crime podcasts.

The Independent Podcast Awards were co-founded by whynow and Verbal Diorama, and seek to celebrate the truly independent talent of UK-based podcasters that don’t have the financial backing of brands to support them. T

he shortlist for the awards was revealed on the 14th September, and recognises 136 podcasts across 21 categories, this was whittled down from over 360 entries that were received. An overall Podcast of the Year will be chosen from the winners of each of the 21 categories.

Esther Manito said: “I’m looking forward to hosting the first ever Independent Podcast Awards and being part of the celebrations for this extremely talented group of creators. Having been a guest on lots of independent podcasts and co-hosting my own ‘Ghastly Women’ with Lily Phillips, I know how much work that goes into them. Finding the right guests, recording the shows and putting your work out into the world and hoping people will listen is a true labour of love, and for many of the nominees this is on top of a day job! I’m excited to see who has won at what promises to be a fun night.”
